Douglas Llewellyn Ludlow Gray, affectionately known to all as “Dougie”, was born to the late Donald and Joyce Gray, on the 1st of December 1954, in Kingston, Jamaica. He migrated to the United States with his mother and siblings in 1965, where they later settled in Brooklyn, New York. Douglas attended Thomas Jefferson High School, where he met the love of his life, Brenda Sepersaude, and married her on the 28th of February 1976. To their union, they were blessed with two beautiful children, Shelon Latisha and C. Brandon Douglas.
Douglas’s thirst for computers started while he was employed with Dun and Brad Street in 1974, and later worked as a computer programmer/analyst for various companies such as Gibbs and Hill, JC Penny and the Board of Education. Douglas’s last employer was National Computer Systems/Pearson, whom he worked for over fifteen years, until he was succumbed by illness.
Although Douglas’s illness made him appear frail, he possessed strength, perseverance and the ability to overcome incredible odds. With his courage he led us to believe that each day is a blessing and he left us with everlasting memories. He would spend hours in his yard, taking his little dog “Chip” for walks or watching movies on one of his favorite channels “Lifetime”. As a charming and charismatic person, he left everyone he met with a lasting impression.
Douglas fought a long and hard battle, but was welcomed home on Wednesday the 7th of October 2009 at 8:38pm. He is survived by his beloved wife of thirty-three years Brenda, daughter Shelon, son C. Brandon, and granddaughters Kiante and Kiana; his sisters Sonia, Sandra and Donna; brothers Obika, Ian and Ernest; aunts and uncles Carlos, Victor, Gloria Audrey and Mable; in-laws Anita, Sylvia and Noel, Carl and Lynn, Basil and Toni, John, Anthony and Tess; nephews Lloyd, Jabari, Antwan, Jason, Courtney, Ori, Sanyika, Chad, Shane and Arturo; nieces Nicole, Sasha, Tandiwe, Lisa and Briana.
