OBITUARY
Eric Darryl Sumpter, was born on June 12, 1959 in Brooklyn, New York to Mattie Sumpter and the late Richard F. Sumpter Jr. Eric is survived by two sisters: Gwendolyn Lacey and Regina Sumpter, two brothers Micheal Ihsan and Willie Anthony Sumpter, his two deceased brothers Kevin F. Sumpter and Timothy O. Sumpter. Eric is also survived by 16 nieces and nephews, 23 grandnieces and nephews, one brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law; a host of cousins and relatives and good good friends.
Eric graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School. He received an A.A. Degree from Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, New York. His major was Liberal Arts. Eric’s name is on a plague in the corridor of Onondaga for being the first President of the first Black Student Organization. Eric was employed for over twenty years, in various companies. But his greatest accomplishment was being the Lincoln Avenue Block Association President for seven straight years. He was meticulous with details from planning the special events, games and prizes for the kids to collecting money from the parents so that the kids could eat and drink all day. He was especially known for feeding the kids who’s parents couldn’t afford it.
Although Eric’s body and soul are at peace in God hands, his spirit will live on in each of us forever. Eric occasionally went to the East New York Church of God on Sutter Avenue, with his aunt, the late Rev. Ernestine Edney. When he found himself depressed he would go to his mother, and she would tell him to get his Bible and read his favorite verse; which was Psalm 121. He will be Royally missed as he Rest in Peace.
