Hattie Brown, the fourth born daughter of the late George and Annie Lanham was born on March 21, 1934 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. She departed this life on July 13, 2009 in the Woodhull Medical Center Brooklyn, New York.

Hattie came to Brooklyn in her early twenties. She received her education through the South Carolina School System. Hattie was employed in the       industry industries. Hattie met and married Joseph Brown on July 26, 1956. To this union were born three daughters: Wanda (deceased), Naydeen and Vernessa and two sons Joseph Jr., and Derek.

Hattie was a member of the Popular Spring Baptist Church in South Carolina and later became a member with Saint Marks Lutheran Church were she remained a faithful member for over twenty-five years. Hattie was a volunteer on the hospitality committee and involved with other church activities when called upon. Her true and genuine spirit of hospitality was experienced by many who benefited from her generosity.

Hattie was passionate about her family. Her abundance of love and affection always showed. Her love for cooking resulted in many family dinner celebrations. Her home was always opened to all who enjoyed a good home cooked meal. Her other passion was being the greatest “Grandmother” to her grandchildren. Hattie’s love will always be the fabric her family is made of.

She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters Thelma (Charles), Naydeen, and Vernessa, two sons Joseph Jr., (Debra) and Derek (Paulette), one brother George (Effie), four sisters Ida (Eddie), Minnie, Rosetta (Pierce) and Florence (Wallace), two brothers-in-law Frank (Jenny) and Lonnie (Ethel), two sisters-in-law Susie and Mabel, twelve grandchildren: Denise, Tamekia (Anthony), Charles (Crystal), Nicole, Chris, Matthew (Tawanna), Corey, Janell, Ivy, Derek, Shantell and Brittney, eighteen great grandchildren: Teonna, Jadarius, Kayree, Tramenika, Anthony, Jafia, Paris, Charles, Dashauan, Nykeenan, Nyaisa, Nyquan, Keaira, Yasmaine, Ceaira, Matthew, Tyrearse and Zaire, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Her favorite scripture

Psalm 23

The LORD Is My Shepherd I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green

pastures; he leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul; he guides me in paths of

righteousness forHis name's sake. Even though I walk through the valleyof the shadow of death,I will fear no evil, for you are with me; Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in thepresence of mine enemies. You anoint my head with oil: my cup overflows. Surely goodness and lovewill follow me all the days of my life;and I will dwell in the house of theLord forever.
