Mrs. Ada Lawton of 56 Malta St. in Brooklyn New York died at the age of 66 at Calvary Hospital on July 26, 2009. She was at a hospice care unit for cancer patients. She was born on September 21 1942 in Bamberg South Carolina. The daughter of the late Albert Legree and Marie (Tatum) Legree. She attended Richard Caroll High School. On March 14, 1959 she married James Lawton of Bamberg, South Carolina and soon after relocated to New York where they were blessed with four children: Frances, Anthony, Timothy and Bonny. But because of her kindness and generosity she soon became known as mom to many.
Ada worked as a Seamstress and also did domestic work, she could also be found tending to the garden or utilizing her creative hands in some way.
She loved life and it showed in the way she treated her family and friends with her kind warm heart. She had friends from every walk of life and she was very well liked and loved and will be greatly missed by all.
Mrs. Lawton is survived be her husband James Lawton of Brooklyn, New York, daughter Frances (Gerald) Davis of Brooklyn, New York, sons Anthony (Caroline) Lawton of Brooklyn, New York, Timothy Lawton of Long Island, New York, and daughter Yvonne (Bonny) Nurse of Orlando, Florida. Her grandchildren Shavonne Lawton, Jessica Lawton, Candace Davis, Aaron Nurse, Kyle Davis, Robert Nurse and Felicity Machado (God Grand daughter), her great grands Alanna J Davis, Chantel Ayanna Hauton. Also survived by her brothers: Oscar James (Jean Esther) Legree, Brodis (Matilda) Legree, sisters: Elouise James and Marie L. Smith. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She leaves a legacy of love with her family and friends.
