Mr. Andrew Grover Moore

ANDREW GROVER MOORE was born on April 14, 1958 in Unity Hospital, Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York to Grover Moore El Jr. of Brooklyn, New York and Pearl Anne Lockhart Moore of Nassau, Bahamas. He was christened at St. Timothy Episcopal Church in Brooklyn, New York and confirmed at Ashbury College in Ottawa, Canada. After graduating from Ashbury College, he attended Niagara University where he obtained a B.S. degree in Political Science in 1982. He later attended Hofstra University. Andrew had a great love for the law and decided to pursue a career in this field. He attended Adelphi University in Garden City, New York where he obtained a degree in paralegal studies. He later went to work as a paralegal for several years at the law firm of Kay Scholer, LLP in New York City where he was a valued part of their legal team. Andrew’s great love of the law led him to the Labat Contracting Agency as a senior paralegal where he was assigned to the United States Attorney’s Office of the Eastern District State of New York, from this assignment he went to work with the United States Department of Justice under former Attorney General Eric Holder followed by United States Attorney General Loretta Lynch until his death. Andrew learned from an early age the value of family and honor from his parents and grandparents. Following their example, he learned the value of hard work and dedication. He was greatly proud of his contributions to upholding the law. Andrew was a dedicated son, brother, uncle and cousin. He was always there to lend a helping hand to whosoever needed it. Andrew believed in giving back. He started a scholarship fund at Ashbury College in his brother Michael’s memory to help other students in need and contributed to many other charitable organizations. He would also go to many community outreach functions to let young people know about the many opportunities available to them at the Department of Justice. Andrew loved to travel. He went on his first cruise while at Ashbury College and continued with the love of travel throughout his life. He loved traveling to the Bahamas to visit family and friends, especially during Junkanoo and Carnival/Goombay. He enjoyed visiting his long time childhood friends Lamonte Shepherd and Roz Lewis and Roz’s daughter Taylor and his Godson Evan in Los Angeles, California, and his close friend Philip Nwankwo in Columbus, New Jersey. Even though Andrew suffered from serious health issues he enjoyed life to the fullest. He had a great love of sports particularly ice hockey. He enjoyed taking his nieces and nephews ice skating, and to baseball, basketball and football games (Liberty, Brooklyn Cyclones, Mets, Nets etc.). He especially enjoyed accompanying his father to baseball games. It gave him great satisfaction seeing his father happy. Andrew departed this life on April 2, 2016 at Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Grover and Priscilla Moore, mother Pearl A. Moore, brother Michael J. Moore and sister Joy A. Moore. He leaves to cherish his memory his father Grover Moore El Jr., sister Valerie E. L. Moore, nieces Erika J. Moore, and Zenobia S. S. Moore-Cohen, nephew Duane S. Moore, Grand nephews, Emanuel Williams and Jeremiah Lamber, and grandniece Melody Williams. Aunts Iris Green, Agnes Morris of Richmond, VA, Joyce Bushell of Hackensack NJ, Lydia Hanchel, and Danessa Atkins. Also the Lockhart family from Nassau Bahamas, Tucker–Bushel family, Atkins family, special family friend Pricilla Smith, and a host of relatives, friends, and acquaintances that will miss him dearly.
