Ms. Delores Y Heyward

Heaven's Gate opened up on June 9, 2021, and GOD received a beautiful spirit into HIS Kingdom. This beautiful spirit was Delores "Dee Dee" Yolanda Heyward. Delores Yolanda Heyward was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 5, 1949 to the late Calvin Coolidge Heyward Sr., and the late Williemae Harper Heyward , in Kings County Hospital. She attended the public schools of New York and graduated from William Cullen Bryant High School in 1968. In 1969 she met Efraim Estrada and of this relationship a son, Michael Louis Heyward was born. On October 24, 1972, Dee Dee became employed by the Department of Social Service Bushwick Welfare Center, as a Clerk Typist and elevated to Eligibility Specialist III. She subsequently transferred to the Food Stamps Department of the Human Resources Administration. She was loved by her co-workers as well as the people she served. She enjoyed helping those less fortunate and attended to their needs efficiently. She retired from HRA on February 5, 2005, after 33 years of devoted service. Upon her retirement, one of Dee Dee's favorite pastimes was to travel. She and her travel buddy, Bertha Nelson, visited just about every Caribbean Island they could plant their feet on. Visiting islands like St. Thomas, Aruba, Bahamas, Dominican Republic and others. But her main enjoyment was the casinos. She loved Atlantic City. There were many casinos she visited, but Atlantic City was her second home. She and her immediate family and friends would spend days upon days in Atlantic City. Dee Dee was a free spirited, kind-hearted and a loving individual. She loved her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren above anything else in this world. She also loved all her family as well; nieces, nephews; great nieces; great nephews and many, many cousins. If you asked her to come to a cook-out, baby shower, birthday party, etc., she would be ready to go. And talk about funny, there was no one funnier than Delores Heyward. She would have you in stitches all day long. This is who Dee Dee was, a free spirit, a kind woman who was never afraid to said what she mean and mean what she say. She will always and forever be missed by all those who loved this beautiful angel. She leaves to mourn her passing, her son, Michael Louis Heyward Sr., daughter-in-law Nia Johnson Heyward; grandson, Michael Louis Heyward Jr.; 2 granddaughters Charisma Nicole Heyward; Ashley Renee Heyward; 1 step-granddaughter, Malika Knight; 1 sister; Sheila Grimes, (North Carolina); 1 brother, Calvin Coolidge Heyward Jr.;( Charlotte, N.C); 1 sister-in-law, Lourecia Heyward; (Virginia) 2 special sisters; Joyce Shaw and Bertha Nelson; 1 special brother; Troy Holloway; 10 nieces, 9 nephews, 14 great nephews; 8 great nieces; 2 great- great nieces; 1 great-great nephew, and a host of cousins and friends Her loved ones who preceded her in death are: Florence Heyward; Jennifer Heyward; Gregory Heyward and Bertha Andrena Heyward-Smith . Sleep in Eternal Peace, Dee Dee. You are gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. .
