Ernest Clayton Anderson

Ernest Clayton Anderson was born to the late Ernest and Virgie Lee Anderson on April 24, 1934 in Holly Hill, South Carolina. He fell asleep in death on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at Wyckoff Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. Ernest was a person full of life and love for all. Ernest, affectionately known as Sonny, lived his life full of passions, his love for his family, South Carolina and America, which basically made up what made him happy. Ernest was a walking advertisement for South Carolina; his love for the state was filled with so many special memories. Even though Ernest had an opportunity to travel and live throughout the world while he served and defended his country, he never forgot the state of South Carolina. His pride for all of his educational alma maters especially Roberts, would constantly be a topic about the state. His love for his family created special pride for him as well; he was the oldest of ten children. His younger brothers and sisters all loved him deeply. He assisted his parents in their care, on every level; they showed their appreciation to him with life-long devotion. Then just mention four names: Gussie, Gerald, Sheila and Lynnett. He often playfully teased, to many, how the bride of his youth Gussie had asked him to marry her. Even though that was a joke, then everyone knew the serious joy that Gussie and him felt about their children; he was so proud of the self-sufficient adults they became. Ernest was supportive of Gussie's religious instruction of faith as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, that guided his children to be successful people. A deeper bond was created with his children because they gained his appreciation for sports, travel, the arts and learning about other cultures. He loved and approved of his children's choices of spouses, he made it known that he gained three more children. He was so touched three years ago when his son-in-law Nathaniel decided to name his and Sheila's last son after him. All five of his grandsons were his greatest joy and favorite conversation topics. Ernest also had life-long friendships that fulfilled his life. Many of his friends were gained through his travels, in a career as a furniture sales representative, after his military stint, and remained dear to him. Ernest also had a way of making every one feel jovial when they came around him, especially in his later years at United Methodist. He was truly loved by present and past staff, especially Paula, Helen, Sharon, Judy, Mrs. Kennedy and Ms. Green. He will surely be missed but not forgotten by everyone. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Anderson, two brothers Fredrick Anderson and Curtis Anderson. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 46 years Gussie Regular-Anderson and their three children Gerald (Chaise) Anderson, of New York City, Sheila (Nathaniel) Martin of Elloree, South Carolina and Lynnett (Audley) Foster of Westchester, New York, five grandsons Quadry, Derrick, Darius, Dontrell and Daniel Clayton, five sisters Eugenie (JB) Armstrong, Sherily (Woodrow) Williams, Mary (George) Graves, Vertis (Sydney) Gleton and Claire-Mae Anderson, two brothers Gerry (Carol) Anderson and David (Phyllis) Anderson, three sisters-in-law Dorothy McCormick, Ernestine (Robert) Qualls and Diane (Hubert) Smart, three special nephews Alton Armstrong, James Armstrong and Michael Williams who remained committed during his illness with continuous visits and concern that bought comfort to him and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends.
