Ethel J. Utley

Ethel J. Utley transition from earth to glory on July 7, 2022 at her home in Jamaica, New York. She fought a good fight and kept the faith. She has now finished her course. She is finally free from her pain and suffering in this life. Ethel Jane Utley was the middle child of three siblings, born May 22, 1941. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank J. and Alice L. Utley and her son, Stafford Utley. Ethel left her childhood home and journeyed to New York City in order to pursue greater opportunities. She worked at Coop City Supermarket from 1966 – 1991 and often talked about how much she enjoyed her job back then. Ethel Jane Utley accepted Christ into her life as a young woman and journeyed on her Christian walk with the Lord. She started her Christian service as a member of Blessed Hope Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Joseph I. Thomas, Sr. Ethel was licensed as an Evangelist in 1998 under the Church of God in Christ. Ethel spoke the Word of God to anyone who would listen, letting people know that Jesus loves them and she does too. Ethel believed in the power of prayer. As she journeyed down the path that God laid, she became a member of H. Kelly Temple Church of God in Christ on December 1, 2001 under the leadership of Overseer Joshua Kelly. In September 2004, she met her beloved Pastor, Dennis K. Cook and his wife, Co-Pastor Bernice G. Cook who are the shepherds of Living Rock Christian Center (aka H. Kelly Temple). From 2001 until the Lord called her home to glory, Ethel fulfilled many capacities and worked in the body of Christ until she was not able to work anymore; she was consecrated as one a mother of the church; Pastor’s Aide and Prayer Intercessor. She taught and delivered the Word of God. She worked on several committees always remembering that Christ comes first with all things. She loved everything about the Lord and God’s people, calling them “honey” or “baby”. She will be truly missed by everyone. Mother Ethel Jane Utley was a woman full of faith. Her motherly advice, love and friendship will be with us forever. Her funny laugh and sweet smile are embellished in our minds and hearts. She leaves to cherish memories her daughter, Trudy Duncan; her granddaughter, Jasmine Duncan of Georgia; Sister, Daisy Dishman of Indianapolis, Indiana; one Aunt, Mary Utley of Spring Lake, N.C.; a host of nieces and nephews; long time Rochdale neighbors and friends and her beloved Church family.
