Mrs. Gladys Burks Gilmore February 8,1950 - September 29,2022 Mrs. Gladys Marie Burks Gilmore (72) of Brooklyn, NY, entered into eternal peace on September 29, 2022, at Brookdale Hospital, Brooklyn, NY. Gladys was born February 8, 1950, in Safford, Alabama to the late Nellar Rivers and John Henry Burks. Dedicating her life to the Lord at the tender age of 11 she was baptized in Aimulle Baptist Church, Safford, AL, 1961. During her primary years of education, she attended Aimulle Stafford School in Dallas County followed by Keith High School in Orrville, Alabama. At the age of 18, Gladys relocated to New York City, in 1968. Gladys dedicated her life to serving others as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). She was a beautiful person who spread joy and happiness wherever she went, her dedication to others did not go unnoticed. After over 30 years of service as a CNA, she retired at Parks Nursing Home, Far Rockaway, NY. Around others Gladys was known to be the quietest person in the room. Gladys was as a remarkable cook and that’s when she spoke the loudest. Known for her for passion for southern style cuisine Gladys would throw down in the kitchen with dishes such as pig feet, turkey wings, and her famous macaroni and cheese while listening to one of her favorite musicians Johnny Taylor. She loved cooking for friends, family, and other loved ones and always cooked more food than could be eaten. She is survived by her loving husband, caretaker, and life partner of over 27 years Mr. Donald Gilmore; step daughter Aleesha Gilmore (Kaseem) Butler, and grandsons Kyree and Kolten Butler (Bloomingdale, GA). Gladys was the fifth child of seven children; Emanuel (Earlina) Rivers, Stroudsburg, PA, Nellie Mae Rivers, Brooklyn NY, Reverend Dwight (Marcela) Woods, Orrville, AL, and the late Louise (Edward) Glover, Brooklyn, NY. She also gained four siblings in-law via her 1995 marriage to Donald Gilmore; Faye (Anthony) Kennedy, South Carolina, the late James Gilmore, the late Robert Lee Gilmore, and Ronald (Susanne) Gilmore of Manhattan, Kansas. Preceding her in death and welcoming her into The House of the Lord are her parents Nellar Rivers and John Henry Burks, her sister Louise Glover, and brother Clarence Burks. Her loving memory will forever live in the hearts and minds of the host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, neighbors, and caretakers, she leaves behinds. John 14:27: 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
