Mr. Hilton E. Heyliger

Hilton Egerton (Isaac) Heyliger was born on April 18th, 1922 at Rosignol Village, West Bank, Berbice, Guyana. He was the son of the late Nathaniel (Natty) Heyliger of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Berbice and the late Christina (Nellie) Smith of Rosignol Village, West Bank, Berbice. He was the husband of the late Vitaleen Vinola Heyliger of Cotton Tree Berbice, and Fair Heyliger of Mocha Village, East Bank, Demerara, Guyana. He was the father of the late Rupert Taitt, the late Elise Chan, David Heyliger, the late Bernice Heyliger, Loraine Chan, the late Cheryl Luther, Pamela Woodley, Hilton Heyliger, Paul Heyliger and Shempton Heyliger. He was the father in law of the late Stanley Chan, the late Winthrope Luther, Micah Woodley, Olivia Heyliger, Anita Heyliger and Marcia Heyliger, relatives J. Heyliger and C. Heyliger. He was the uncle of Reginald Lawrence and the late Rudolph Henry; cousin of the late Andro Welcome, Eulett Welcome, Wycliffe Welcome, Olive Goodluck, Aghata Bob, Carl Welcome, Joy Welcome, Urma Smith, Claudette Alexander, Dawn Romanick, Petal Bob, Frederick Bob, Aubrey Bob, the late Yvonne Welcome and many others too numerous to mention. He was the grandfather of the late Wayne Taite, Feiona Pitt, Conrad Heyliger, Collette Chan, Charwayne Chan, Christopher Luther, Samuel Luther Winthrope Luther, Alexis Lee, Kezia Halley, Odetta Chan, Eden Luther Micah Luther, Lionel Luther, Delight Luther, Holly Luther, Isaiah Luther, Elise Heyliger, Latoya Heyliger, Isaac Heyliger, Megan Heyliger, Emmanuel Heyliger, Shauneeka Heyliger, Davine Heyliger, Tabecca Heyliger, Juna Chan, John Chan, Joel Chan and Shelleyann Chan. He was the great grandfather of Kathy, Gracie, Destiny, Shyanne, Skyla, Hannell, Rhianna, Ryan, Sean, Shania, Nehemiah, Janai and many others too numerous to mention. As a young man dad began his trade as an apprentice mechanical engineer at the Blair Mont Sugar Estate. He then went on to work at the Bauxite Company in McKenzie, Linden, Demerara. He then moved on to Prastons Shipping as a fully competent engineer. He excelled in the field of engineering; acquiring the title (A doctor of the engine). Dad had a very scientific method and approach for doing his work which earned him the respect of his superiors and peers. He then moved on to Booker Shipping, where he had the privilege of sailing all over the Caribbean joyfully for more than forty years; retiring as a Chief Engineer. Later in life dad migrated to the United States of America, where he primarily resided, and in New York in particular for the last twenty-five years. During that time dad became actively involved in church life drawing closer to the Lord in his personal walk. He was baptized several years ago and was an active member of Grace Assembly Christian Ministries, where he was deeply love by the brethren, and was one of our best praise and worship dancer; (In fact nobody could dance like Pops as he was loving called by the people of GACM). Prior to his migration to the United States of America, he attended Newtown Assembly of God Church, Guyana, where he accepted Jesus as his Lord and personal Savior, under the ministry of Rev. John Cummings. Dad was accustomed to independent living for most of his life and especially in the United States of America, however, he lost some of that independence coming to the latter days of his life. During this period of his life he was loving cared for by his daughter in law Marcia Heyliger, his son Paul and their loving children and grandkids until his passing. It was a joy to take care of Dad. Dad lived a full and enjoyable life; we were blessed to have had him for the period we did. May his soul rest in peace in the arms of the Lord.
