For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 1 Corinthians 15:51-52 (NKJV) Brother Learcy (Larry) Holley was born on February 18, 1944 in Murray Hill, North Carolina. Learcy, fondly known as Larry, was raised from a very young age by the late and Beloved Evangelist Mother Mary Holley – Thompson. Though her nephew, the late Mother Mary raised and considered Larry as her own son. Larry moved to Brooklyn, New York at a young age. After a long illness, Larry transitioned from the physical world to his heavenly home on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Brooklyn Hospital. Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Evangelist Mother Mary Holley Thompson; one sister, Mrs. Joyce Nesbitt and his former wife, Alvivian German. Larry was united in marriage to the late Alvivian German, September 1967. To that union, one daughter was born. After completing school, Larry became a certified optician. He worked at Cohen’s Fashion Optical on Delancey Street in Lower Manhattan. He retired from Cohen’s after 30 plus years of dedicated service. Larry was a caring and happy person. He loved God. He loved his children. He loved his community. He was a hard worker and was beloved by his colleagues at Cohen’s, and his neighborhood lifelong friends, acquaintances and various family members. Larry was a mentor and advisor to young people as well as the young at heart. Larry loved gardening, socializing, fishing and cooking—he really loved fishing! Most especially, Larry loved his late Mother Mary’s coconut cake, and often expressed that no one could make it quite like her. Larry leaves to cherish fond and happy memories, his daughter, Mary Holley Gilliard (Vincent Frederick) of the home; one son, Timothy Knight of Suffolk, VA; two stepdaughters, who he nurtured and covered as his own daughters: Wanda Johnson of Brooklyn, NY and Brenda Johnson of Upper Marlboro, MD; grandchildren: Christina Greene (Demario Greene) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Floyd Gilliard of the home and Kamani Jeremiah Swann of Bowie, MD; great grandchildren: Destiny Greene, Prince Greene, Yasir Greene, all of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Jeremiah Emory Swann of Bowie, MD; one brother-in law, Bishop Thomas Nesbitt of Brooklyn NY, one god-daughter, Naima Topaz Farrow of Brooklyn, NY.
