The Rhythm of Love Malik Williamson, the one who shall always wear a crown. His name befits the dynamic, powerful, strong, and fearless spirit that is he. Our hearts will always sing for you. You are an endless melody that gives our lives rhythm...the beat of joy, acceptance, selflessness, and love. When the music captivated you, your body would always move. From the Earth to the Heavens, we watched you dance, glide, and sway, projecting a happiness that could only heighten our ability to love. During our lows, you took the lead and gave us the strength that we needed to surpass all trials and tribulations. During our most glorious moments, you celebrated and honored us with a vibrancy that was insurmountable. When we looked into your eyes, your vision reflected our light. Regardless of the infamous clouds that may have cast shadows throughout our past. Looking beyond the tempered rain that seemed like it would flood all our hope and faith, you were the umbrella that held us all together. You were the cloak that we could hold on to, for warmth and protection. As the radiant sun touches our skin, we can feel you holding us, giving us strength and uplifting us. We have always admired the depths of your heart and the tenacity of your spirit. Always turning pain into purpose. When we think of you, happiness envelopes our soul. A smile illuminates our faces. Your life was a vision of happiness. You taught the value of happiness and you aimed to live every single day as a reflection of radiant light. From the moment that Malik Jalil Williamson came into this world, he brought joy into the lives of those whom he encountered. Born on July 6, 1976 at Kings County Hospital, Brooklyn, NY, to Shari and Daniel “Sonny” Williamson Jr., Malik evoked a happiness that would endure his entire lifetime. An omnipresent figure throughout Brooklyn, everybody knew Malik and Malik knew everybody. To know him was to love and laugh with him. To know him was to sing and dance with him. To know him was to pray with him and be encouraged by him. Malik was raised in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, in a home that was defined by infinite family love and togetherness. In Brooklyn, is where he would also meet his first true love, music, at the age of fourteen. It was then that he attended Paul Robeson High School and participated as a lead member of the performing arts program. On August 2, 1991, Malik developed a new dimension of his being when his family moved to Laurelton, Queens. He attended Springfield Gardens High School and graduated in 1994. As a member of the Springfield Gospel Ensemble, Malik’s voice exuded strength and confidence. With his boisterous spirit, he captivated audiences and in 1992, he would meet the young woman that would captivate his heart, his high school sweetheart Katrina Fuller. In 1994, they bore a beautiful baby boy and named him Malik Iquil Jalil Williamson Jr. He would hold his child’s heart and his hand on his journey into manhood. During Malik’s attendance at John Jay College, he developed an interest in criminal law and justice, which would lead him to a career in law enforcement. With the initial encouragement of his father, Malik’s life would come full circle back to Bedford-Stuyvesant, where he would serve seventeen years in the New York City Police Department’s 81st Precinct. As an officer, Malik would act as a conduit, bridging the gap between the community and the police department. As the Auxiliary Coordinator, Malik illustrated a profound commitment to developing the Auxiliary Police and the Explorers Program through outreach and community service. He also served as a member of the NYPD Guardians Choir, using his voice to shield the community from negativity. As a Sergeant of Arms for the NYPD Aerobics Team, Malik used his love of fitness to promote health and wellness in the NYPD community. Serving others before himself is his testimony, living everyday by the mantra that love is the answer always. Malik Jalil Williamson descended into Heaven on Friday, May 12, 2017. He is survived by his son Malik Iquil Jalil Williamson Jr. and his child’s mother Katrina Fuller; mother and father Shari and Daniel “Sonny” Williamson; brothers: Khaliq and wife Tiffany, Anwar, Shakur; sister Safaarah; nephews: Jaylin and Shakur; nieces: Jaila, Blessing, and Winter; grandmother Alma Williamson;beloved friends: Chosie Vaughn, Mona Phillips, Kimberly Smith, Joshua Echeverria, Michael Montes,Darren Eady, Khalilah Slade, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. As Malik is laid to rest, he will join his grandmother Zilphia “Zip” Wilford who he loved and lived for. She will be meeting him at the gates of Heaven. May he sleep in peace.
