Ms. Geraldine Brown was born on July 2, 1952 in Brooklyn, NY to the Late Mr. Luke and Lucille Bracey. Geraldine was the 2nd of 4 children born through this union. Geraldine, affectionately known as Dina, was educated by the New York City Public School System and graduated from James Madison High School in June of 1970. Dina studied Business Administration at Brooklyn College in Brooklyn, NY in 1972. Dina met and married her teenage sweetheart, Fred Brown in June of 1974.This union brought forth two children, Naheem Brown and Arabia Brown. Dina worked several years for the United States Postal Service and in February of 1990, she accepted a position with the New York Health and Hospital Corporation as a Hospital Police Officer and was stationed at Metropolitan Hospital for several years. After 25 years of impeccable service, Dina retired in February of 2015. Dina loved Jesus! She sung in the choir at Tabernacle Baptist Church and also taught Sunday school. When she became a member of Brownsville Community Baptist Church, Dina was a member of the Pastor’s Aide. She was willing to help everyone. Dina cared for her cousin, Pastor Harold Burton Sr., while he was ill. Dina’s last act of kindness was the donation of her organs. Dina loved life and lived it to the fullest. She enjoyed traveling, walking on the beach every morning, sewing, knitting, watching movies and weekly outings with her three best friends of over 50 years, Brenda, Sheila and Beverly. Most of all, Dina loved cooking! Dina loved to entertain and enjoyed cooking a good meal for her family and friends. It brought joy to her heart when she watched others enjoy her delicious meals.Friday nights was Dina’s Movie Night. We all knew not to disturb her on Movie Night. She loved a good movie and a bad one too! Also, Dina was an excellent painter and hairdresser. She painted all of her siblings’ apartments and did just about everyone’s hair on the old block in Brownsville. Geraldine was preceded in death, by her parents, Luke and Lucille Bracey, grandson Elisha Brown, granddaughter Destiny Brown and special longtime friend, Reginald Floyd. Geraldine leaves to mourn her children Naheem (Chela) Brown, Arabia (Sean) Brown, two brothers, Luke Bracey Jr., Steven (Denise) Bracey, one sister, Janice Bracey, five grandchildren, Darryl, Elijah, Symphany, Samara and Giana Brown, two nephews, Tyrelle Smith and Steven Bracey, Jr., one niece, Shaniece Bracey, three great-nephews, Tyrelle M. Smith, CadenThomas and Tymell M. Smith,one sister friend, Verna Finley, one goddaughter Alisha (Kirk) Finley-Wright and a vast host of relatives and friends.
