Gilberto Lopez Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved father, Gilberto Lopez, of Queens, NY, died at the age of 64 on July 28, 2022. Gilberto, better known as “boogalu or booga or hector la voe” passed away surrounded by his family at home after a long battle with COPD. Gilberto is proceeded by his two sons, Joshua E. Lopez and Gilberto Lopez as well as his two daughters, Jeanett Lopez and Daisy Lopez Soler. Gilberto was a man loved by all his family and friends. Gilbert was the type of man that did not mind breaking his back for those he loved. Our father always had the best intentions and the biggest heart to match. He always tried his hardest to make a person feel comfortable or at home. To some he was gilbert or Gilberto, but to his family, he was booga, and booga was a lil crazy, Hella OCD, and definitely challenging at times, but u had to love him, and we all did in our own way. When my dad put on his suit to go somewhere, you knew he meant business. I was recently told my dad was a menace on those electric scooters, and I believe it! I can just picture him with a loose wobbly helmet, snazzy outfit and speeding thru stop-signs, hitting every pothole, LOL. Dad had an amazing & energetic spirit with the dance moves to compliment it, especially salsa! Gilberto had many talents, from chess player, paddle ball & handball player and his favorite, dominos! But the best of all was being an amazing hair stylist. Gilberto was not only a good friend but an amazing father, loving brother, great cousin, superb unclez and outstanding grandfather. Boogalu will be severely missed but never forgotten, for his memory will live on in each one of us. We will all have our own special unique way to honor him, and no one way is better than another. Thanks to all those who took the time to pay respect and honor my dad. God bless.
