Mary Sampson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mary Wesley Sampson was born in Buena Vista, Georgia on January 12, 1941. She was the third child of seven, born to the late Wesley and Ida Mae Sampson. On February 3, 2018 , after complications from a long illness, God called His child home. Mary joined the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Buena Vista, Georgia at an early age. She received her formal education in Buena Vista and graduate from Buena Vista High School in 1960. After high school, she moved to Brooklyn, New York to live with her cousin Rayford Smith and did factory work making purses. Mary later met Bishop LeSane and to this union, they had one child, Debbie LeSane. Mary eventually moved to Van Dyke Houses in Brownsville, Brooklyn where she lived for the past 49 years. During her time in Van Dyke, she was very active with the Residents’ Association, the Junior Bowling League and was the captain of the Tenants’ Association in the building in which she resided. She received numerous awards for her outstanding work in the community. As a believer in Christ, Mary would become and remain a member of Brownsville Community Baptist Church for over 20 years. Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and mentor. Mary was affectionately called “NaNa” by all the children who crossed the doorway to her home. She made Sunday dinners and Holidays a special and memorable event for her family. Mary leaves to mourn and deeply cherish her memory: daughter, Debbie LeSane; granddaughter, Deniesha Reid; a loving friend Robert Washington and two adopted daughters by love, Cassandra Young and Patricia Snell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mary will be missed by all.
