Frederick T. Bigger

Frederick T. Bigger (“Freddie”) was born in Brooklyn on July 5, 1947 to the Late Sgt. William A. Bigger and the Late Pearl D. Bigger. Three children were born to that union: William (“Willie”), Pearl (“Cookie”), and Freddie. Pearl later met the Late Alden M. Guy (“Johnny”) and that union produced five children: Christina, Vanessa, Edwin, Patricia and Catherine. Freddie received his early education in the New York public schools. He graduated from Boys High School in Brooklyn in June of 1965 and later that same month went on to serve in the United States Navy aboard the “U.S.S. Chicago” battleship. During his military service, Freddie received the National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal (with two bronze stars), and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged in July of 1971. Freddie was dating a beautiful young woman named Veronica, affectionately known to us as TeeTee. In September of 1970, to them was born Charles Arasheen Idlet-Bigger, Freddie’s one and only child. Arasheen, like his dad, is also a veteran who served in the U.S. Army and currently lives in Virginia. Freddie was devoted to his fellow veterans. He volunteered for many years at the Veterans Hospital in New York. He offered love and support to all of the wounded warriors he came in contact with. Freddie was also a life member of the American Legion in Brooklyn, NY. Freddie began working for the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) in 1979. He was committed to improving and protecting the rights of City workers, retirees and their dependents. His hard work and dedication allowed him to eventually be elected as a DC37 Union Representative as well as serving on the Municipal Labor Committee. He also served as Fire Warden on the floor of Capital Program Management Department and was affectionately known as the “Mayor of 2 Broadway.” After proudly serving for 31 years, Freddie finally retired as a Computer Associate III in 2010 and became a member of the MTA Retiree Association. Freddie had a wonderful tenor voice and used it to sing GOD’s praises. In his early childhood, he served in the Catholic Church. In his adult years, he joined First A.M.E. Zion Church in Brooklyn, NY. Then in January of 2006, while still living in Brooklyn, Freddie moved his membership to Victory Christian Tabernacle in Hempstead, NY where his younger brother was the pastor. When Freddie relocated from Brooklyn to Manhattan, he then moved his membership to Mother A.M.E. Zion Church in Harlem. Freddie loved family gatherings. He enjoyed music, dancing, good home cooked food and dessert! He would always showcase his unique dance moves which were hilarious. Freddie brought joy and laughter to everyone with whom he came in contact. In 2019, Freddie met a wonderful woman and devoted friend named Evelyn, but we all know her as “Nature.” She stood by him through thick and through thin. They were planning to eventually be married but GOD called him home. Freddie departed this life on Saturday January 4, 2025. He was preceded in death by his wife: Mary; his parents: William and Pearl; his step-father: Johnny; his older sister: Cookie; his Brother-in-law: Michael; and a great nephew: Jeremiah. He leaves behind many to mourn and cherish his memory including: his loving fiancé: Nature; one son: Arasheen; one step-daughter, Althea; one grandson: Anthony; four sisters: Christina, Vanessa, Patricia, and Catherine; two brothers: Willie and Edwin; two brother-in-laws: Kevin and Shelton; one sister-in-law: Beverly; eight nieces: Liyah, Careese, Danielle, Stephanie, Sukari, Christine, Natasha and Jamie; seven nephews: Malik, Roscoe, Brandon, David M., Sterling, Schaloyn and David G.; five great nieces: Anaya, Michaela, Emrys, Ava and Brielle; five great nephews: Donovan, Dorian, Titan, Austin and Hayden; an uncle: John “Skeetz” Gooding; an aunt: Dorothy “Dot” Smith; four special buddies: Amena, Marilyn, Theresa, and Joyce; and a host of cousins and friends. We will surely miss our dear brother Freddie, but we look forward to reuniting with him and so many other family members and friends one day somewhere around GOD’s throne!
