Mary E Mason

Mary Etta Mason was born October 29, 1934 in Reevesville, South Carolina to the late Lula Mae Reeves and late Curlee Murray. She quietly slipped into eternal rest on January 30, 2023 in Bronx, New York. Mary Etta was the oldest of 5 children. She went to William Memorial High School in St. George, SC. In the mid 50’s, she moved to Far Rockaway, NY where she worked as a laundry attendant in St. Joseph’s Hospital. Shortly after that, she met her soulmate Lorrie Mason (deceased) and they united in matrimony on August 2, 1960. In 1963, they moved into the Van Dyke Houses in Brownsville, Brooklyn, where they raised two daughters. At the time of her passing, Mary Etta was still tenant of that apartment with the same phone number that countless people know by heart. After many years of travelling far to work & maintaining her home, she decided to become a homemaker. That was a full-time job within itself. Family was everything to her. She instilled manners in her children (and grandchildren too) She loved cooking delicious meals, and made many things from scratch like cakes, biscuits & peach cobblers. She enjoyed talking on the phone with family & friends. She also loved ordering clothes & Beautiful church hats from the catalogs. Mary Etta knew the Lord as her personal savior since she was young, so church was always a major part of her life. She attended Bethel No. 1, (a family church) then joined Brownsville Community Baptist Church where she was a faithful member for over 37 years. She was a wonderful, faithful wife and an amazing, loving mother. When her husband passed, they had been married 55 years. She was loved by so many and will be truly missed. She is preceded in death by her parents Lula Mae & Curlee Murray, her brothers Harry & Johnnie Lee Murray, her husband, Lorrie Mason and her grandson, Christopher D. Mason. She leaves to cherish her memory: Daughters: Laura Etta Jones (Kevin), Marianne Mason (Angel), Granddaughter: Serina Jones (Allen), two great- grandchildren, Her Sisters: Eulah Moultrie (Rev Isaiah) Jessie Mae Stevens, Closest cousins: Vergie Mae McBride and Roosevelt Lewis Jr., Sisters in law: Dorothy Calloway, Mary Perry, Brother-in-law: Wallace Mason and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
