CELEBRATING THE WONDERFUL LIFE OF VERNA VICTORIA CARR SUNRISE APRIL 3. 1933 - SUNSET APRIL 10, 2025 OFFICIATING MINISTER: PASTOR JOHN MILLWOOD Obituary for Verna Victoria Carr It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Miss Verna Victoria Carr, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 10, 2025, in Queens, NY, after a period of declining health. Verna Carr was born on April 3, 1933 in Richmond Vale, St. Thomas, Jamaica, West Indies. She was lovingly called Mama, Miss Verna, or Sister Verna by her family. Verna was a seamstress, one who lovingly crafted the uniforms of her children, a farmer, who sold her wares in Coronation and Browns Market in Kingston, Jamaica, a savvy entrepreneur, who understood all the intricacies of running a business, and the rock of her beloved family. Verna spent most of her adult life in Jamaica and immigrated to the United States in the early 2000’s, where she lived in places like Lowell, MA and Queens, NY until her death. A devoted mother, she is survived by three daughters Joan and her husband Lloyd of Deltona, FL, Marcia and her husband Earl of Queens, NY, and Sophia and her husband Devon, of Brooklyn, NY; three sons George (Georgie), Lloyd (Clarence), and Donovan and his wife Claudia of West Palm Beach, FL. She leaves behind a rich legacy of 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, as well as 4 siblings, Viviene, Leroy, Madge, and Clifton as well as many nephews, nieces, extended relatives, and friends. Verna’s daughter Marlene, her mother Lovinia Carr, and her husband Leslie Duhaney preceded her in death. Verna will be deeply missed and will always be remembered for her kind demeanor, soft-spoken nature, love of music, infectious laugh, and the deep pride she had for her beloved family. Rest in peace, Big Mama! We will miss you forever and a day.
